Historic Clay Sites we will visit:

White Hall
home of
Cassius Marcellus Clay
White Hall, originally built as Clermont in 1798 as a 2 story Georgian brick structure,
was remodeled and doubled in size in the 1860s as an Italianate style structure and
renamed White Hall.  Cassius Marcellus Clay was born here in 1810. He later retired
here and died in 1903.  White Hall is now a Kentucky State Park Historic Site.

Ashland

home of
Henry Clay
Ashland, named for the many ash trees on the property, was the plantation and
mansion for many years of Henry Clay. It was there he introduced the Hereford
breed of livestock to the United States. Rebuilt and remodeled by his heirs, Ashland
is now a museum. The museum includes 17 acres of the original estate grounds.

PAST GATHERINGS

CLAY FAMILY SOCIETY 2008

The fifth Gathering of the Clay Family was held in Huntsville, Alabama, June 20-22, 2008.  Huntsville, birthplace of Alabama!  Clement Comer Clay, his son Clement Claiborne Clay, and many others have called Huntsville and Madison County their homes.  We had a great time and missed all our Clay cousins that were unable to attend!!

CLAY FAMILY SOCIETY 2006

June 2006 took us to Chester, Virginia for a three day Gathering. We were happy to see cousins that we had not seen for the two years since the last Gathering, and we met new cousins that joined us for their first time. We visited the cemeteries of Henry Clay, the elder who died in 1760, his son Rev. Eleazar Clay and grandson Phineas Clay. We heard the stories of the petrified man of Chesterfield County, the kidnapping of two Indian children by Henry Clay, and of the searches of our cousins.
