Leontyne Clay Peck


(Leontyne Peck has traced her heritage to Henry Clay of Madison Co.,Virgina, this Henry Clay may be a descentant of Chance and Jude, two Indian children kidnapped by Henry Clay of Chesterfield Co., Va, who inspired their story to be told in the book  Free in Chains by Mary B. Kegley through Patience Clay and George Chapman. If anyone has any information on Madison County's Henry Clay, please contact Leontyne at leontynepeck@yahoo.com

Mrs. Peck is an educator/entrepreneur with more than 20 years of comitment and experience in African American Cultural Programs. She received her education at Potomac State College, American University, American University of Rome and West Virginia University. She has taught Sociology as well as State and Local Government.

She is the recipient of a host of awards. Among those awards are Who’s Who Among African Americans, Maryland Business & Professional Woman of the Year, Maryland Commissioner on African American History & Culture and a Ford Foundation Scholar in African American Studies. She has recently completed the history of her family entitled, “Silver Children-The African American Family of Henry Clay.”   She is married to Lyle Peck and is the mother of two daughters. They make their home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
